Here is a different project, but something we do from time to time 🙂 Due to various "Green" laws, manufacturers do from time to time put out steel parts with coatings for rust protection that do everything BUT protect from rust. And almost always, owners of such are given the same two choices, either doing cheapie stop-gap temporary DIY fixes (just like with guns), or replacing with very expensive OEM or aftermarket parts. For example, some wheel bolts for some years of Porsche models are like that, like these from a 2006 Porsche 987. As you can see, they are bad enough to totally ruin the presentation of such a fine auto. And with their peened Aluminum positioners in place, they are next to impossible to refinish properly without damaging the anodizing on the Alu rings. At least, they are, without the help of a wizard.

And so.... For those in the know, there is a third and better solution. Getting a certified GUNSMITH take them apart, prep them properly and refinish them with the best rust-proofing FIREARM coating known to man 😎
